Updated SCOOP Schedule + New Promotion

With the recent Poker Black Friday, PokerStars has been forced to adjust the guarantees and tinker with the schedule a bit. Here are the tournament I plan to play and possibly play:
Sunday May-08 Event 02 NL Hold’em Low: $22 Med: $215
Monday May-09 Event 05 NL Hold’em [Turbo, Rebuys] Low: $11
Tuesday May-10 Event 08 NL Hold’em [Turbo] Low: $11 Med: $109
Friday May-13 Event 15 NL Hold’em [2X Chance, Turbo] Low: $16.50
Sunday May-15 Event 19 NL Hold’em Low: $22 Med: $215
Sunday May-15 Event 20 NL Hold’em Low: $22 Med: $215
Tuesday May-17 Event 26 NL Hold’em [Turbo] Low: $11 Med: $109
Sunday May-22 Event 38 NLHE Main Event Low: $109

Possibly
Monday May-09 Event 04 FL Badugi Low: $16.50
Monday May-16 Event 23 PL Omaha [Turbo, 1 Rebuy, 1 Add-on] Low: $11
Sunday May-20 Event 31 NL Hold’em [1 Rebuy, 1 Add-on] Low: $22

That would be over $500 in buy-ins

PokerStars is also running a 50% Reload this bonus up until the start of SCOOP which clears at a 20x rate and will expire at the end of May.

They have also reformatted some of their daily guarantees into The Daily Bigs. To promote this name change, if you play one of the buy-in types 3 times, you will be credited for a SCOOP ticket worth that buy-in value. Not too shabby if you get the $11 + $22 + $55 + $109 SCOOP tickets, thats a $197 value!
See here for more info - http://www.pokerstars.eu/poker/promotions/the-daily-bigs/

Hopefully I have some run good going my way :) I Need it!

PokerStars introduces new Turbo Fifty50 SNG with a Promo

PokerStars is currently running a promotion for introducing their new type of Sit & Go tourney, called the 'Fifty50'! This tourney is similar to the 'Double or Nothing' style except half the prizepool is a standard payout and the other half is divided among the remaining players via chip count. They want everyone to try this new format. so if you deposit at least $50 using the code FIFTY50 they will instantly credit you with a '$5.24 Turbo Fifty50 Sit & Go' entry - for free! Just deposit before January 30th!

I did my deposit today and played my ticket. Took 18 minutes to complete. ICM has a huge implication near the bubble. Otherwise, keep trying to chip up on the bubble to gain that extra equity. GL at the tables!

WBCOOP - Day 1 PLO

Today was Day 1 of the WBCOOP 2011. This year, instead of having everyone qualify for the finals, they run 6 preliminary tournaments from Monday to Saturday where the top 200 finishers in each win a seat to the Sunday Final which has a prizepool over $30K in SCOOP prizes.

Each priminary tournament has a prizepool close to $5000 in SCOOP tickets.

In the first WBCOOP Prelinary Tournament, I came 122/540 and received a free SCOOP - $11 Entry! Time to robusto it up! Thanks PokerStars!

A PokerStars Promotion that Delivered

I'm a man who likes his equity, so when PokerStars offered up their new Micro Mania promotion, being the equity no that I am, I jumped on it.

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/micromania-north-america/

This promotion entailed the player to make a Deposit or Reload. In my case, I made a $10 reload using the promotional code 'Mania' and received a $1.10 ticket to the weekly ‘MicroMania: Sunday Million $1.10’ qualifier which has 25 seats guaranteed each week.

I finally got around to playing it this weekend after prior commitments for the past 2 weeks. I sat out the first 3-4 levels as I ran errands earlier in the day. The structure is one of my favourites, the 10-minute fast structure blind levels. All in all, it took 4.5 hours of grinding, 2000 players eliminating each other until 25 remained, a bit of luck and I was eventually one of the lucky 25 to win my $215 seat.

So while small, the promotion still worked out :) Thanks PokerStars

Congrats to ACHEN for the shippage!

I'd like to give a shoutout to my friend's brother, Andrew Chen aka achen, who took down the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $5K Bounty Shootout. It worked as a triple 6-max shootout and achen made it to a tough final table against the likes of Shaun Deeb and Nick Binger. In the end, it was a beautiful AhJh on a Jxx (2 heart board) where he got them all in 3 ways and made the flush on the turn to lock up the tourney win! In total he won $10K (winning first table) + $40K (winning second table) + $213K (winning final table and tourney) + 6K (for 6 KO Bounties) for a grand total of $269K! What a sweet way to kick off the new year! Congrats Andrew, best of luck to yah!

WBCOOP

PokerStars has updated their WBCOOP (World Blogger Championship of Online Poker) Badge.

They have also informed me to tell you all to keep blogging because WBCOOP 2011 is coming up this January!

WCOOP Recap

I played a bunch of WCOOP this year thanks to PokerStar's satellite system. I was able to win my way into a lot of events on less than $300 in buyins.

In total, I played 1 x $109; 4-5 x $215; 1 x $265; 2 x $320

I think I cashed 2 or 3 times. Nothing deep, but was fun. Structure was great and stacks always seemed to be deep. Can't wait to SCOOP 2011 and WCOOP 2011. Need to work on my game to make better deep runs. glgl all

SCOOP 2010 - 5 Days to go!

It just feels like yesterday when PokerStars annouced their 2010 SCOOP schedule. I plan on playing most of the Lower Tier buy-ins and some of the Medier Tier buy-ins (like the $109, $162 and $215s).

Whats great about a Series like this is that you get a great amount of variations of poker games besides the standard everyday Hold'em tournaments. Two of the different tournaments that I'm excited about is Event #4 FL Badugi and Event #29 8-Game!

8-Game is becoming a very popular game in the live and online world. It's become so popular that the WSOP has changed their $50K HORSE event to a $50K 8-Game event which is expected to be televised with an all NLHE Final Table.
Click here to learn How to Play 8 Game Mix.

I first heard of Badugi while attending the WSOP in 2006 where I saw it being played in the cash game area with the likes of Johnny Chan and Tim Phan. The game is believed to have originated in Korea and now becoming every popular in card rooms around the world, especially in the LA Area (eg Commerce Casino).
Click here to learn How to Play Badugi.

With SCOOP starting in less than 5 days away. I wish you the best of luck at the table, just not against me :)

Game of Skill

Their is a debate as to whether poker is a game of chance or a game of skill. I think it deals with both, you take a chance every time you enter a hand, but skill will help you to increase chips in the long run by taking slight marginal edges or completely trapping your opponent. In my opinion to achieve results in poker “the right balance of patience and aggression is important. Poker is a lot like sex, everyone thinks they are the best, but most don’t have a clue what they are doing!” Which is why playing poker is clearly a game of skill.

Roller Coaster Session

Started off good banking a win in a 12/180, and then it started turning ugly when i final tabled a 36/180, 7 handed @ 2.5/5K blinds I get all in BBvSB with KK vs JJ, and he binks it on the turn :( It was then completely downhill from there for every single tourney it seemed. I don't tilt easily, but I came pretty close to blowing up today. Being a poker player, you understand that variance is a way of life and hope an upswing can last forever, alas variance is a bitch. gl at the tables.

Shipped a mini tourney

Decided to play a tourney today because a site had a software update and it glitched their system for all rebuy/addon tourneys by making it impossible to rebuy/addon, thus making all their guarantee tourneys have overlay.

The one I played had 42 runners @ $5+0.50 each ($210 in buyins). And first paid $220 (550 GRTD), so pretty sick. Small cash but still nice regardless :)

PS Turbo Night

With the first turbo night of 2010 upon us, I was hoping to take one down or get a top 3 placing. I bricked every turbo scheduled MTT, not even a mini cash. Ran ~badish at 2 x final table of 33+3/180 Turbos, luckily I won a 12/180 to save the day and make a slight profit. See you at the next turbo night!

Heading to Vegas

Will be off to Vegas with friends from the 13th to the 20th. I read up on a PokerTek PLO Game being run at the Excalibur Thursday nights by Jeff Hwang (author of a recent PLO Book). That will also be the day I get back from our side LA trip so I hope I'm not too tired and can book in a live PLO session. The PokerTek tables treated me well my last vacation as well.

And GL to everyone with exams.

10K Hands

Well its taken me 2 weeks, so about 600 hands per day to get to my 10K Hand milestone. I learned a lot about PLO (Position, drawing to the nuts, and some bluff plays) and feel it will help me in my next 10K hands and so on. I think I need to work on widening my pre-flop hand selection range, but as a newb, it's okay to be a bit tighter for now.

Further ado, my 10K Profit Graph. btw, Rakeback is great because it will account for 1/3 of my net profits (RB not included in graph).

Great Sunday of PLO Action

Today I got in 1700 ish hands on a Sunday when games are said to be the juiciest. In the end I pulled a nice 5-6 buy-in profit and helped boost the PLO confidence. Hopefully this trend continues and I can make enough improvements to move up to the PLO $100 games and further. Good bankroll management is my moto!
